Prayers of the Saints
During my installation of All the Saints at the Autry Museum in 2008, we organized two of my paintings - Santa Monica Boulevard and St. Stephanie - in a chapel-like installation, lit with votive candles. I designed "prayer cards" with the All the Saints template, which we left alongside for people to fill out and use as they choose. During the course of the ehibition, thousands of these cards were written and drawn on and left behind.
They are meditations on violence, suffering, love, and loss;
and on the ways we can choose to respond to each....
Left behind among the votive candles, bearing visitors' thoughts about loved ones, violence, community, and peace, these cards reflect the concerns of the everyday saints of the City of the Angels.
